Twice as much agri-food surplus

The agri-food sector has been presenting a US$3.25 billion surplus from January through October 2016, that is 90.6% more than the record for the same period in 2015, when the surplus was valued at US$1.7 billion. According to Agricultural Markets Consultants Group (GCMA), this division earned the third largest exporter sector position, reflecting a 6.06% growth rate from January to October 2016, compared to the same period in 2015, when it reported US$22.24 billion. Agri-food sector imports added up to US$20.33 billion, equivalent to 0.97% below the record for the same period in 2015. Exports skyrocketed thanks to the horticulture sector, which reported growth rates of 48.03% during the year, while imports grew by 14.49%. Moreover, the agro-industrial sector exports escalated 9.36% during the period from January to October 2016, valued at US$2.2 billion, while imports had an estimated value of US$1.44 billion.
