This December 7, the world celebrated Civil Aviation Day, an initiative from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to highlight the role of civil aviation in economic development across continents. The organization choses a different theme for every five years, the theme for the 2015-2018 period is “Working Together to Ensure No Country is Left Behind.” This theme is part of ICAO’s No Country Left Behind campaign, which aims to support countries to implement the organization’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). ICAO is using this day to highlight the role of cooperation and partnerships in civil aviation, a sector that represented US$710 billion globally in 2015 according to IATA. Just in 2015, 3.44 billion people from all over the world flew in an airplane according to World Bank. In Mexico, the National Chamber of Air Transportation reports that 2015 ended with 72 million flyers while 2016 is expected to end with 80 million.
