WWL opens processing facility to support Audi’s Mexican operations

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) opened a new processing facility at Audi’s new assembly plant in San José Chiapa, Mexico, to support the automaker operations.

The German automobile manufacturer’s new assembly plant is expected to produce 160,000 vehicles a year, becoming the worldwide sourcing point for its Q5 model.

WWL will perform two critical activities in the dispatch of the new Audi vehicles: yard management and railcar shunting. For this purpose, around 80 people will be employed, and two 30-ton railcar movers have been leased to pull and push Automax and Bilevel railcars, covering 20 kilometers of tracks.

“With the addition of this site, WWL Mexico is close to 1,400 employees working at nine facilities across the country,” said in a press release Roberto Zavala, Country Manager for WWL Mexico.

This is the 9th processing facility WWL operates in Mexico.
