Carlos Salicrup, a Mexican aerospace physician, in collaboration with Japanese firm Stony, designed a 3-D printed ventilator, useful for surgical interventions during long-term missions. The “E-mail ventilator” is a medical mechanism which will allow to anesthetize and ventilate a patient in the space; as it is 3-D printed, it is lighter and more compact, ideal for the reduced spaces in space ships and shuttles. This device does not need electricity to work. The ventilator could be used in low resource zones, because of its easy transportation and reduced cost.
