Lear chooses Zacatecas to open its 45th plant in Mexico

Lear Corporation opened in 45th plant in Mexico, which required a US$ 21 million investment. The facility is located in the municipality of Calera, Zacatecas, just 15 miles away from the state capital.

According to company officials, around 1,300 workers were recruited for the first phase of operations at this production site, which manufactures seat covers. An additional US$ 9.5 million investment is planned to expand operations in 2018, with an opening of 600 more jobs.

The Zacatecas facility, which will operate under the name of Lear Mexican Trim Operations, is the company’s number 154 around the world. 

During the last four years Lear opened 11 plants in the country. The company estimates its Mexican workforce will total 56,000 employees by the end of the year.
