Plans for Constellation Brands brewery in Mexicali remain on track

Plans for a new US$ 1.4 billion brewery in Mexicali remain on track despite opposition from local farmers and the cancellation of a state aqueduct project to supply water to the future facility, said a Constellation Brands spokesperson to The San Diego Union-Tribune this week.
The producer and marketer of beverage alcohol products, which supplies Corona and Modelo beers to the U.S. market, said it is undeterred by the cancellation of the state’s 30-mile aqueduct project, and is proceeding with its plans that include building its own infrastructure to supply the 7 million cubic meters of water annually that the plant will require once at full capacity.
The project, set to launch operations in late 2019, will create 750 permanent jobs and 3,000 to 4,000 more while the facility is under construction.
Constellation Brands expects to open the plant with a capacity for producing five million hectoliters per year, with the possibility to increase output up to 20 million hectoliters annually.
