Gentherm to supply Mercedes-Benz on its first premium segment deal

Michigan-based Gentherm, a developer and manufacturer of thermal management technologies, announced that it has been selected for a next generation Mercedes-Benz car line in the upper or luxury segment. This award represents Gentherm's first advanced seat comfort system program with a major premium luxury German brand.
"Daimler AG has long been a valued partner in seat comfort technology and other products. We currently provide many seat heaters for Mercedes-Benz cars, however, this is the first time we have successfully worked together on a climate seat. We appreciate the opportunity to contribute our expertise in thermal technologies," President and Chief Executive Officer, Daniel R. Coker said in a statement.
"Our contribution to the program includes our advanced, automotive grade, highly durable air moving devices and resistive wire technologies to both front and rear seat positions," Coker added.
Both Gentherm and Mercedes-Benz reserved the rest of the details about the program under development, including the location of the facilities involved in the agreement. However, it is worth noticing that Gentherm operates three production sites in Mexico, two un Acuna, Coahuila, one more in Celaya, Guanajuato, which opened by the end of first quarter 2017.
All three plants supply thermal solutions for the automotive industry, although only the Acuna facilities manufacture products for seating applications specifically.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz currently builds a manufacturing facility in Aguascalientes in a joint venture with Nissan’s premium brand Infiniti. The German automaker is scheduled to begin production of a new line of sedans and possibly a small size SUV in 2018.
