With a compromise to invest US$ 1 billion over the next 10 years, oil and derivates Anglo-Dutch company Royal Dutch Shell today opened in the state of Mexico its first gas station in the country.
Following an energy reform in 2013, private companies can now brand gas stations and sell non-Pemex brand gasoline and diesel, as well as import fuels.
"What you will be seeing in the next few years is a billion-dollar commitment, it is an important amount, it is the value of the Mx League," said Alberto de la Fuente, Shell Mexico general director, making reference to one of Mexico’s soccer circuits.
At the opening of its first service station in Tlalnepantla, a municipality that neighbors Mexico City, Andres Cavallari, Downstream director, said that with the pace of investment they expect to open from one to two stations every week from now to the end of the year.
"What you will find from now on, is a Shell Select store with a wide offer of high quality food and drinks, our additives like Shell Super which is parallel to the Magna brand from Pemex, and the Premium-equivalent Shell V-Power, which is used by the Formula 1 Ferrari team," Cavallari added.
Shell’s first service station operates under a franchise scheme, but the company plans to build its own branches, along with gas pipes and fuel terminals.
