BMW Mexico confirmed that the construction of the San Luis Potosi plant is 75% completed, according to schedule to start production of the Series 3 model in the first half of 2019.

The president and general manager of the plant, Hermann Bohrer, estimated that in four months they will begin the construction of the first prototype in the paint shop, "because we’re already running out of time," said the executive to Notimex

The executive said that the plant will have the first paint shop in the world without waste of water, besides no use of paper will be required, since the process will use the Internet of Things instead.

Earlier this year, the BMW Group announced its concept for comprehensive paint shop digitalization for the new plant in San Luis Potosi was awarded with the Prix de la Technique 2017 at the prestigious Surcar Congress in Cannes, France.

The Surcar Congress is where experts meet and exchange on all aspects of car body finishing, including manufacturing, assembly, surface treatment and coating.
