Mexico’s aerospace industry on track to exceed US$ 8 billion exports this year

Mexico has become a global manufacturing center for the aerospace industry, which has allowed this sector to grow at an annual rate of more than 15%, support more than 50,000 jobs and maintain encouraging prospects of the future, said Carlos Robles, president of the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA).
At the opening ceremony of the Mexico Aerospace Forum in Mexico City, Robles offered a paper entitled "Growth and Opportunity Areas in the Mexican Aerospace Sector," which gave an overview of the closure of the 2017 according to the indicators of the sector.
“We are optimistic: we estimate that we are going to exceed the US$ 8 billion in exports and we will be closing with around 60,000 jobs related to the sector and that we will be very close to the almost 400 plants or established companies in the country," Robles added.
The representative of the aerospace industry in Mexico said there’s three main topics the sector must attend to continue on the upward path.
First, the generation of human capital, which must be trained in specific skills for companies established in the country.
Secondly, the development of treaties with other governments and certifications with aeronautical authorities in order to open the opportunities offered by the market.
In particular, he said that work is being done on a regulation to be able to carry out maintenance of Canadian aircraft in national territory, which several affiliates of FEMIA are promoting.
And third, he alluded to the development of the supply chain, in terms of matching the needs of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers with the competencies and capabilities of the productive chains in Mexico, and thus generate more attractive volumes that lead to better business opportunities.
