Regardless of NAFTA, Daimler workforce in Mexico to increase in 2018

Regardless of the NAFTA renegotiation outcome, Daimler’s workforce in Mexico will increase to 10,000 strong by 2018, once the new Mercedes-Benz production facility becomes operational in the state of Aguascalientes, said earlier this week Jan Hegner, CEO of Daimler Buses Mexico, to state-owned Mexican news outlet Notimex.

“Our plants are here. We have 7,500 workers and soon they will increase to 10,000,” said Hegner, pointing out the manufacturing facilities the group has in Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and State of Mexico, as well as remanufacturing and distribution centers the company operates in State of Mexico and San Luis Potosi, respectively. “We’re not going to change a strategic decision we’ve been following for 30 years,” he added.

Regarding the NAFTA renegotiations, the official said Daimler has presence all over the world, and the company supports free trade. “So, we will adapt to political decisions,” said the official.
