Nissan to end production of the Tiida sedan in Morelos by 2018

Nissan Mexico announced it will cease production of the Nissan Tiida at its Cuernavaca plant (CIVAC) in June 2018, 12 years after the compact car started rolling out of two Mexican facilities.

The Japanese automaker started production of the Tiida in Mexico back in 2006. The hatchback version was built at the A1 plant in Aguascalientes, where its output ended in 2012. The sedan version is built at the CIVAC plant, from where it is shipped to more than 100 countries in regions such as Latin America (Colombia, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Dominican Republic); Europe (Russia, Germany, Ireland, Greece); Gulf countries and the Middle East (Iraq, Lebanon, Armenia, Israel); and Africa (Libya, Nigeria, Malawi).

So far Nissan has built nearly 1.3 million Tiida in Mexico, of which 981,000 have been exported. In the Mexican market up to last October, the Tiida has seen sales of 290,000 units, 16,000 hatchbacks and 274,000 sedans.

The production volume at the CIVAC facility will not be affected, since it will continue to manufacture the NP300 Frontier and NP300 pickups, the Nissan Versa, as well as the NV200 and NV200 Taxi commercial vans.
