Chihuahua state authorities today inaugurated the Parque Fotovoltaico Camargo, the second photovoltaic power plant fully operational in the state, which consists of 113,000 solar panels over a 90 hectares landscape.

The facility was built by Spain-based developer Gransolar for the Balam Fund, a private equity fund that invests focused in energy efficiency and sustainable projects

The Camargo PV Park has a production capacity of approximately 35.5 MW, equivalent to the electric power consumption of 30,000 homes; in addition, it avoids the emission of 60,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The project was acquired by Balam Fund from Spanish renewable energy company Avant Energias Renovables for US$ 45 million in March 2016.

There’s currently three more PV plants under development in Chihuahua, a 60 MW plant in the municipality of Ascension, and two projects in Jimenez and Ojinaga of 30 MW each.
