Volkswagen Golf family makes “10 Best” Car & Driver list for the 12th time in a row

Volkswagen announced its Golf family made the Car and Driver magazine’s “10Best” list for the 12th consecutive time, in a competition against 65 vehicles.

“Entirely modern but cast in the same basic blueprint as the car that arrived here in the mid-1970s to replace the beloved but antiquated Beetle, the Golf remains one of the most capable, versatile, and meticulously assembled vehicles currently available at any price,” the editors said.

The Car and Driver annual “10Best” list features 10 of the magazine’s most favored new vehicles. Cars are judged on value, performance and the ability to satisfy the comprehensive driving needs of the consumer.

All production vehicles for sale in the current calendar year are considered, with the following restrictions: the vehicle must be on sale by January; it must be priced below 2.5 times the average car price for that year; the manufacturer must provide a vehicle for testing; and only substantially changed vehicles and the past year’s “10Best” winners are nominated.

“Earning this award for the 12th consecutive year validates the consistency of the Golf family in delivering unmatched quality and performance at a competitive price point,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, president of VW of America.

The Golf family consists of the e-Golf, Golf, Golf Alltrack, Golf GTI, Golf SportWagen and Golf R. All variants for the North American market are built in Puebla, Mexico, except for the e-Golf and the Golf R, which are still Germany-sourced.
