Last week, Volkswagen put an end to the production of the Jetta A6 (known in Mexico as Jetta Bicentenario) at the assembly plant in Puebla, where the test runs for the next generation of the model, the A7, began two weeks ago.

Factory workers revealed to local media that during the previous two weeks, 10 to 15 units of the new Jetta have been assembled daily.

"Between today and tomorrow the production of the Jetta will end. Meanwhile, a Jetta A7 is rolling out of the line for every 15 or 20 of the previous version. In short, we expect to reach production of 40 or 50 daily Jetta A7 cars,” an auto worker said last week.

Recently the company allowed some journalists in the automotive industry to test the prototype units at the company's proving grounds in Arizona.

Until last November, the Jetta was the vehicle with the third largest volume of production in Mexico, with 203,507 units in the first 11 months of the year, surpassed only by the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup, with 253,018 units and the Nissan Sentra 2.0 with 268,747 vehicles.

The popular sedan is scheduled to make its debut at the upcoming North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) held in Detroit in January 2018.
