Japanese manufacturer of automotive lighting expands production capacity in San Luis Potosi

Koito Manufacturing, a Japan-based manufacturer of automotive lighting, plans to boost production capacity at a plant in Mexico by 50%, the Nikkei Asian Review reported in recent days.

In operation since 2014, the facility located in San Luis Potosi employs around 1,000 workers to make 1.3 million vehicle lights a year. The expanded capacity is expected to become operational by the second half of 2018.

Koito also plans to increase production capacity by 70% at a manufacturing site in the Fujian Province of China, which currently churns out 1 million units annually, and a 50% boost at a manufacturing plant in Indonesia, which also produces 1.3 million units a year.

The company will invest US$ 44.2 million at the three facilities, US$ 17.7 million at the Indonesia site alone.
