Grupo Bimbo to set solar panels in 80% of its Mexican facilities

Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest baking company, announced the start-up of a photovoltaic system, which will prevent the annual emission of more than 2,500 tons of CO2.

Called "Bimbo Solar Self-Supply System", it will integrate 33 systems that will generate 3.7 MW altogether, in order to reduce pollution.

During its first stage, the energy system will supply power to 24 sales centers, 7 branches of El Globo, the Corporate building and the Metropolitan Distribution Center, which is currently under construction and which will have a self-supply system of solar energy in ceilings with a power of 2.3 MW.

The first system was installed in the corporate building of the company, located in Mexico City. It includes 308 solar panels that will supply 20 percent of the energy consumed by the installation.

According to the company, 80% of its facilities in Mexico have the potential to feature solar panels on their roofs for energy supply, the goal is to cover all of them by 2025.

“In other parts of the world we are looking at the alternatives that exist, depending on the region, localization and mechanics of local governments for the establishment of this kind of investments," said Javier González, deputy general director of Grupo Bimbo.
