Mexico and Canada signed a Memorandum of Understanding to exchange information about the railroad industry and its regulation. Railroad transport usage has grown above the general economy's average during the current administration, which is reflected on a 13% increase in cargo transport records and a 27% increase in passenger transport. Likewise, the public-private investment for the sector adds up to US$55 million, thus doubling investment records form the last presidential period. The Mexican Secretary of Communications and Transport, pointed out that the purpose of this Memorandum is “to exchange data resulting in better approaches and practices to comply with the standards of decision and regulation that the signers are entitled to, as well as the improvement and general development of the railroad transport services in both Countries”.
