After two years of construction, Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma Heineken will inaugurate on Feb. 27 its new US$ 390 million brewery located at the municipality of Meoqui, Chihuahua.

The new plant has a production capacity of 5 million hectoliters, expandable up to 10 million in order to meet demand in Mexico and the United States. The facility will count on six productions lines to produce bottled, canned and kegged beer.

The plant is part of an investment plan implemented from 2015 to 2019 with a US$ 2 billion budget.

According to project manager Jose Molina, the Meoqui brewery not only will be the biggest in Mexico, but it will also be first to preserve its storage tanks in a controlled temperature warehouse instead of leaving them in the open field.

In 2016, Mexico contributed 16% of the volume, 12% of revenues and 15% of profits for the Dutch brewing company.

According to Euromonitor, at the end of 2016 Grupo Modelo had a 57% market share in Mexico, while Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma Heineken closed at 40%.
