The National Association of Producers of Buses, Trucks and Tractor Trucks (Anpact) reported January retail sales of 2,933 heavy vehicles, a decrease of 1.7%, compared to January 2017. Wholesale sales totaled 2,213 units, up 0.6%.

Retail sales of tractors trucks increased 9.8%, while wholesale sales increased 20.9%. Retail sales in the cargo segment dropped 0.9% drop to 2,334 units, while wholesale sales increased 2.7% to 1,768 vehicles.

Miguel Elizalde, CEO of Anpact, said that the heavy vehicle industry has a very important growth potential but it also faces complex challenges.

"We are currently 35% below our sales potential, and this year, we face a complex context with new regulations, high theft incidence rate and an election year, which is likely to inhibit the growth of the domestic market,” Elizalde said.
