On February 27, French auto supplier Novares Group opened its third production plant in Chihuahua, fifth overall in Mexico, to supply plastic components for automotive original equipment manufacturers.

The company invested a total of US$ 15.6 million in this site, US$ 2.6 million on building renovations and US$ 13.0 million on new equipment, machinery, including 25 new Engel Injection Molding Machines.

With this new facility, Novares Group, formerly known as Mecaplast-Key Plastics, aims to expand current business with Ford and further develop programs with their new customer, BMW.

The new plant will house 276 employees, in a 7,900 square-meter facility and an annual turnover of US$ 23.5 million is estimated.

“We are very excited and proud to open our fifth production plant in Mexico. I would like to thank all our staff for their dedication and effort they have made to get the new machinery and operations set up. We are looking forward to closely working with our customers, Ford, BMW and help them take their business to the next level,” said at the inauguration Charles Holmes, Plant Director.

Novares started its Mexican operations in 1994 and employs 1,185 at the 5 plants. There are now three located in Chihuahua, which manufacture interior components; one in Silao, Guanajuato, opened in 2016 for engine parts; and one in Puebla, opened in 2003 for interior, exterior and engine components, which also features a Technical Center.

This past November, Novares won the SPE Innovation Award in cooperation with Faurecia in the process and technologies category for decorative components for their customer Ford. The winning component was a two-shot injection molded decorative bezel for an instrument panel with 3D visuals and a scratch-resistant coating. It was produced by means of a specialized plastic injection molding technique.
