Velcro expands operations in Sonora to serve customers in the medical industry

Textile fasteners manufacturer Velcro announced the opening of its newly expanded facility in Agua Prieta, Sonora to serve customers in the medical products industry, one of its fastest growing global business segments. Such expansion implied the opening of 200 job positions.
The new 54,000 sq ft (5,000 sq mt) building is adjacent to the company’s existing factory. Velcro Companies first established a manufacturing presence in Agua Prieta in 1984, and the company’s operations there have grown steadily. This is its fifth expansion at Agua Prieta, and total employment is expected to reach 1,200 positions, up from approximately 1,000 prior to the new building. Official figures regarding investment were not disclosed.
Speaking at a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by employees, union executives and local government officials, Alejandro Mirazo, Plant Manager of the Agua Prieta facility, said: “We are excited about the expansion of our factory, which will help us serve our customers in the medical products industry. The expansion also recognizes the talent and dedication of the people who work here. We are very proud of them and the contribution they make to our business. We are committed to providing training opportunities for employees at the new facility so they can acquire the technical skills necessary to succeed.”
