Spanish renewable energy developer PRODIEL announced it has been selected by Mexico's Infraestructura Energetica Nova (IEnova), to construct its 144-MW Pima Solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant near the city of Caborca in the northern state of Sonora, Mexico.

The solar park will use almost 440,000 solar panels and is expected to produce more than 293 GWh per year, PRODIEL said in a statement.

The plant will be built over a 10-month period, with commercial operation scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2018. The financial terms of the deal were not revealed.

In March last year, IEnova struck a deal to sell the power from the solar park to steel company Deacero under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
