Mitsubishi Electric de Mexico, a subsidiary of Japanese multisector manufacturer Mitsubishi Group that builds electric and architectural equipment at two plants in Queretaro, aims to increase the yearly production capacity at one of its facilities from current 1,000 elevators to 2,000 in 2020 and, subsequently, ramp up its output volume to 4,000 units by 2025.

Francisco Diaz, engineering manager of the Transportation Division of Mitsubishi Electric Mexico, said to El Economista paper that the plant I, which manufactures the elevators, currently operates at 50% of its intended capacity, but the company is working to make it fully operational in the next two years.

But the plans of Mitsubishi Electric do not end there, as it is negotiating to acquire more land for a new expansion with which in the end they estimate to produce between 3,000 and 4,000 elevators per year by 2025.

"We still do not have an exact data of the investment that is going to be made, we are still in negotiations to acquire land and all that situation to be able to expand our plant. However, at a corporate level the decision’s already been made," added the official, without neither mentioning the number of jobs that will be created along with the expansion.

According to Diaz, the production would be destined for all of the Americas, since the company considers that there is capacity to supply the entire market from San Juan del Rio, Queretaro.

In addition to the elevator plant, Mitsubishi Electric operates another production site for traction motors, control equipment and electrical components in San Juan del Rio. The company also has a manufacturing plant in the municipality of El Marques, also in the state of Querétaro, where it produces automotive components, such as alternators, starter motors, multimedia and mechatronics products.
