German manufacturer Continental inaugurates US$ 59 million R&D center in Queretaro

German manufacturer Continental today inaugurated its new Research and Development Center (R&D) in Queretaro state capital, with an approximate investment of US$ 59 million. The new R&D Center began operations with a staff of 160, but with the expectation that it will have 1,000 workers by 2022, the company said in a statement.

The team will focus on developing software, algorithms, tests and mechanics. Also, the specialists will work with technologies oriented to automatic driving for specific points, such as detection of blind spots, pedestrians, potential danger of crossroads and alerts of objects around the vehicle, among others.

The company also said that the Research and Development Center will be linked to public and private universities in the region, which will give outstanding students the opportunity to combine their academic knowledge with experience.

"Continental offers to support talents of those interested in technological development and invention, accompanied by flexible work plans and a multicultural environment," said Jorge Vazquez Murillo, director of the R&D Center of Mexico.

The ceremony was also attended by Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal; of the governor of Queretaro, Francisco Dominguez Servien and Helmut Matschi, member of the Executive Board of Continental.
