Production of heavy trucks in Mexico totaled 36,422 vehicles during the first quarter of 2018, up 16.7% compared to the 31,196 units from the same three-month period of 2017, according to the latest figures from the National Association of Buses, Trucks and Tractor Trucks Producers (ANPACT for its acronym in Spanish).

Meanwhile, exports of heavy vehicles were of 31,320 units during the first quarter, a 33.6% hike compared to the same period from the previous year.

However, the latest quarterly figures are way below those from the first quarter of 2015, which has been the best year for the heavy truck industry in Mexico. Back then, commercial vehicle plants established in the country built 50,210 units, 27.5% above the latest results.

Same case goes for exports, which totaled 45,108 units during the first quarter of 2015, 27.2% more than the current figure.
