Kelley Blue Book (KBB), the vehicle valuation and automotive research company, recently named the Mexico-made Mazda3 its number 1 pick on the list of the “coolest cars under US$ 20,000” in the U.S. market.

“Widely regarded as the best-looking and most fun-to-drive vehicle in its segment, the Mazda3 is the all-time champion of our budget-minded coolest cars list, appearing here for the 15th time. Available in both sedan and hatchback form, the Mazda3 offers practicality that appeals to compact car buyers, with sportiness that makes even daily chores more fun,” said the California-based firm, one of the most respected among both consumers and the automotive industry.

The next generation of the vehicle made in Salamanca, Guanajuato will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, although the Japanese automaker has yet to confirm if the revamped model will also be manufactured in Mexico.

It's worth noting that the Mazda3 is not the only Mexico-made model on the list. Placed fourth comes the Volkswagen Golf, of which nearly all of its variants for the U.S. market are built in its assembly facility in Cuautlacingo, Puebla.

“Euro-tuned handling and a sporty attitude are only part of what makes the Golf such an appealing car. You can zip around town with the practical cargo space of a hatchback, yet get your tasks done in a cool-looking car that's agile and responsive,” said KBB about the German-engineered model.

Also on the list is the Honda Fit hatchback, which is built in Celaya, Guanajuato. “This diminutive hatchback has a feature called the Magic Seat that gives the interior space and versatility that rivals that of a small SUV. The subcompact Fit also happens to be fun to drive. That combination of practicality and pep at an affordable price makes this a hard car to resist,”.

About the criteria picked by KBB, it is very subjective, but the company says all units have certain merits in common, like being “fun”, stylish, packed with the “tech features you want, the versatility you need and a price you can afford”.

Each of these cars are available for less than US$ 20,000 according to Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Prices database as of May 11, 2018.
