Sales of electrified vehicles hike 43% during first quarter in Mexico

Sales of electrified vehicles increased 14.8% during March to 1,309 units. This figure comprises of 1,290 hybrids and 19 plug-in electric cars, according to the latest data available from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association.

Total sales in the first quarter of 2018 were of 3,564 vehicles, 47 electric units and 3,517 hybrids, which represents an increase of 43.2% compared to the same three-month period of 2017.

Nearly half of sales took place in Mexico City and the neighboring state of Mexico, representing 34.6% and 14.3% respectively. 

Car owners in both entities are subject to strict environmental regulations that limit the use of their vehicles, however, hybrids and electric vehicles are exempt from these regulations.
