Monterrey-based Nemak, S.A.B. de C.V., a manufacturer of aluminum components for the automotive industry, announced that it has produced more than 3 million parts in its structural and electric vehicle components (SC&EV) business, marking a key milestone in the implementation of its strategy for this segment.

"A year ago, we decided to create an organization focused exclusively on driving execution and growth in SC&EV —in addition to successfully ramping up production of these components, we are already seeing its contributions materialize in the form of cutting-edge innovations linked to vehicle lightweight and electrification, primarily in battery, body-in-white, and chassis and suspension applications," said in a statement Armando Tamez, Nemak´s CEO.

Nemak is leveraging its portfolio of casting technologies as well as its expertise in secondary processes to deliver high value-added enhancements which are required for the proper functionality of SC/EV components.

In battery housings, one of its fastest-growing product lines, these include providing advanced design and cast-in cooling solutions, which are critical for crash resistance and battery performance, respectively.

Based on its earned business to-date, the company expects that it will have a market share of approximately 20% in battery housings for plug-in hybrid vehicles in North America and Europe by 2020.

The company’s SC&EV organization features a global network of engineering, product development, sales and marketing, and R&D talent to develop tailor-made solutions for its customers and oversee new product launches in the segment.

For that end, Nemak relies in more than 100 professionals with key technical competencies and know-how —including casting design, complex machining, and joining and assembly— to capitalize on emerging opportunities in next-generation vehicles.
