Around 25,000 workers in the automotive industry in Aguascalientes, including employees of the Nissan plants and their suppliers, this week began a week-long scheduled holiday.

Rogelio Padilla de Leon, head of the auto union in the state, said that 70% of the workers in this sector began a scheduled halt in which the Japanese automaker assembly plants will receive maintenance and new tools for production of 2019 year model cars.

Padilla revealed to local media that this stoppage includes exclusively those that are part of the manufacturing area and that are directly involved in the production, while those dedicated to engineering, maintenance, quality and additional supports get to work on the technical aspects for the production of the 2019 year models.

In the case of supplier companies, which is equivalent to 70% of the Japanese plants installed in Aguascalientes dedicated to the automotive sector, "there are some that do not stop because they have other additional customers to the local assembly plant".

There are also cases where workers in the manufacturing area who declined to take holidays to get involved in the adaptation work, which will keep their vacation package intact.

Nissan operates two plants in Aguascalientes, the A1 facility which builds the Versa compact sedans and hatchbacks (known in the U.S. market as Note), the subcompact hatchback March and the Kicks crossover. Meanwhile, the A2 facility builds the Nissan Sentra.
