Next-gen Chevrolet Silverado to hit U.S. market in early August

The launch of the next generation Chevrolet Silverado keeps right on schedule and the first units will be delivered next month to customers in the U.S. market, said General Motors in its second quarter results.

The company said it has managed to keep its full-size truck plants running at more than 100%, two-shift capacity to meet demand and maintain inventory for current-generation pickups during the transition to all-new full-size pickups.

“The launches of the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra remain on track, with the first highly contented crew cab deliveries to customers expected in early August,” said GM in a statement.

Considered the biggest product program ever undertaken by GM, the company invested nearly US$ 3 billion alone to upgrade the three plants that build the Silverado and its sibling the GMC Sierra.

Crew cabs for both Silverado and GMC Sierra (with four large doors) are built in Silao, Guanajuato while regular and double cab pickups are made in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Heavy-duty pickups are made in Flint, Michigan.
