The manufacturing industry in Mexico will reach its production peak in 2019, with 4.2 million units, and will stagnate in around 4 million as of 2020, explained the Senior Manager of Sales of Light Vehicles in America, Guildo Vildozo, from the IHS Markit consultancy.

The expert gave another reason for alarm for the Mexican automotive industry, because it pointed to an increase in the demand for crossovers to the detriment of passenger vehicles.

"This is cause for alarm for Mexico because the investment between 2011 and 2016 was focused on passenger cars, which is the most contracted", he said.

Vildozo suggested that Mexico needs to diversify because it is currently "focused on a market that will not grow", in reference to the US market.
