The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and  Direccion General de Normas (DGN) have established the first voluntary Mexican norm on food safety, which was published by El Diario Oficial de la Federacion de Mexico, after a public consulting during the spring of 2018.

The purpose of this project was to establish the guidelines for the certification of programs and the development of private food safety systems recognized by the GFSI. The Local Group of GFSI in Mexico coordinated the public-private project with the support of the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).
