Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP) reported that the recollection of the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) on food with high caloric density (junk food), increased more than 30% during the first six months of 2018.

From January to June 2018, US$672.73 million were collected, this implies an increase of 31.2% in real terms, compared to the US$488.57 million that entered the public treasury during the same period of the previous year.

Adrian Garcia, income researcher at the Center for Economic and Budgetary Research (CIEP), explains that this increase is due to the efficiency of tax collection and higher product sales.
