KIA revealed that the drop of 24.1% in production at its plant in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon during July was due to a scheduled idle to set up the assembly line in order to build the new generation of the Forte sedan.

In an interview with Mexican media, Horacio Chavez, general director of KIA Motors Mexico, said that the start of production of the third-gen Forte in the Pesqueria plant required adjustments in robots and mechanical arms that load the pieces and help workers to assemble the vehicle. The set-up and tooling work took just one week, Chavez said.

Despite the halt, the plant, whose production capacity is 400,000 units, is expected to complete its second full year of operations with a volume of 314,000 vehicles, a figure that will represent an increase of 42% compared to 2017.

In the first seven months of the year, the KIA plant in Pesqueria saw a production increase of 33%, according to data from the Mexican Auto Industry Association.
