The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan scored highest in the compact segment of J.D. Power’s 2018 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study (SM). The study, now in its third year, measures owners’ experiences, usage and interaction with 38 driver-centric vehicle technologies at 90 days of ownership.

“We are thrilled that the 2018 Tiguan scored so well in the J.D. Power study,” said in a statement Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and After Sales for Volkswagen of America, Inc..

J.D. Power conducts the annual TXI Study to help provide clarity to auto manufacturers, insurance carriers, telecommunications companies and consumer electronics companies on ways to minimize the gap between driver experience and execution.

The major technology categories analyzed in the study are entertainment and connectivity; comfort and convenience; driving assistance; collision protection; navigation; and smartphone mirroring.

The study is based on a survey of nearly 20,000 vehicle owners and lessees. Awards are based solely on responses from the 14,800 owners who purchased or leased a new 2018 model-year vehicle in the previous 90 days that is an all-new or redesigned model within the past three years. The study was fielded from February through July 2018.

The award was made just a week after U.S. News & World Report named the same Volkswagen SUV the Best New SUV for Teens in the US$ 35,000 - US$ 40,000 category.

To be awarded one of the Best New Cars for Teens, a vehicle must have the best combination of reliability ratings, crash test scores, available advanced driver assistance features and top critical recommendations in the U.S. News Best Cars rankings in its price category.

“The Tiguan's long list of available active safety features can give new drivers – and their parents – peace of mind when they hit the road.” says Jamie Page Deaton, executive editor of U.S. News Best Cars. “The Tiguan also has strong crash test and reliability ratings, making it a smart choice for families getting ready to hand over the keys."

All 2018 Best New Cars for Teens winners have available forward collision warning, lane departure warning – which alerts the driver if the car strays out of its lane – and lane keeping assist, which can also help keep the car in its lane.
