Petróleros Mexicanos (Pemex) and the operator Talos Energy signed a unification agreement between the oil fields Amoca-Yaxche-03 and block 7.

The alliance establishes a procedure for them to operate jointly if the existence of a shared deposit is confirmed, defining a process to determine the percentage of each party’s participation in any potential development, Pemex said in a statement.

“This agreement, which will be valid for two years, allows the parties to share information related to the recent Zama discovery to evaluate the possible extension of Pemex asignated part,” the company explained.

Pemex and Talos will establish a working group, with the purpose of maximizing operative and computer resources, defining the activities in each of the segments to optimize seismic acquisition and reduce risk. The group will be integrated by legal and technical representatives of each of the companies.

“This is the first preliminary unification agreement, which is celebrated in Mexico’s oil history,” said the company’s director, Carlos Treviño, in a document.
