Starting January 1, 2019, Jaime Cohen will replace Radek Jelinek as CEO of Mercedes-Benz in Mexico. The announcement comes after it was revealed that Jalinek will take charge of the Mercedes-Benz subsidiary in Italy.

With the assignment of Cohen and that of Maru Escobedo who last July was confirmed as CEO of BMW, there are now two premium automakers in Mexico that are run by executives from that same country.

Jaime Cohen began his career at Daimler in 1987 as head of the Export Purchases Department at Mercedes-Benz Mexico. Later he assumed other leadership positions in Mexico, Germany, the United States and Brazil.

In 2015 he was appointed Managing Director of Sales and Service of Trucks for the Latin America Region and in early 2017 he assumed his current position as CEO of Daimler Colombia S.A., Mercedes Benz said in a statement.

Jaime Cohen is a graduate of foreign affairs at the Iberoamerican University in Mexico City and has a diploma in International Trade from the Anáhuac University.

His appointment comes at a time of great technological challenges, since he will be in charge of the introduction of electric vehicles that will arrive in 2019, for which he must implement a robust program of parts, service, training and lobbying with Mexico’s authorities.

He will also have to keep an eye on the production of the Class A sedan in Aguascalientes, which will start before the end of the year, although the date of the official opening is still unknown.
