Bimbo could grow its fleet of electric delivery trucks to 500

The globally recognized industrial bakery, Bimbo, could add 80 more units to its fleet of delivery trucks. Currently, the Mexican company owns 420 electric vehicles through its subsidiary Moldex in Mexico. Some of Moldex’s clients are Coca-Cola Femsa, Nestlé, Unilever, Bachoco, Big Cola and Nissan Mexicana.

"We are looking for an increase [in the fleet], but there are several factors that should be considered. There is still no such commitment; however, we already have 420 units and increasing it to 80 may be possible in the near future," said Irene Espinola, global manager of Renewable Energy at Grupo Bimbo, when asked about the possibility of reaching 500 electric units.

This isn’t the first green strategy Bimbo has decided to implement, as in September of 2018, the company announced its intention to use 100% renewable electricity, by 2025, in its operations.

"We are working on energy efficiency. For the time being, renewable energies wise, we are focusing on electric power and we are making efforts to change our fleet of vehicles to electric units," Espinola concluded.
