More Brazilian meat processing plants to export to Mexico

A total of 26 Brazilian chicken processing plants were inspected by Mexican authorities in August and were green-lit to export to Mexico, where sales of said product reached US$185 million in 2017. In this sense, there are already 46 Brazilian chicken meat processing plants enabled to sell to Mexico, a country that imports about 16% of its consumption of that product.

Mexico’s main chicken suppliers are the United States, Brazil and Chile, the Brazilian government said, adding that Mexico produces 3.9 million tonnes of that meat in a year, but imports at least 640,000 tonnes to supply domestic demand.

"The expectation is that the opening of new plants will allow us to resume the trend of expansion in Brazilian exports of chicken meat to Mexico," said Odilson Silva, secretary of International Relations of Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA).

From January to October, sales of Brazilian chicken meat to Mexico totaled US$138 million; however, the South American giant wants to reach US$185 million by the end of this year.

On the other hand, sources of MAPA informed that it is possible that, before 2018 ends, there will be more Mexican technicians visiting Brazil in order to inspect thermos-processed beef factories.
