BMW CEO confirms Mexico plant will start up with expanded production capacity

Alexander Wehr, BMW CEO for Latin America and the Caribbean, confirmed to local media in San Luis Potosi that the assembly plant will begin operations with a production capacity of 175,000 vehicles per year, not 150,000 units as originally planned, while its initial staff it will be 2,000 people instead of the 1,500 previously stated.
Such figures first emerged last September, when managers of the plant announced a job fair in the state capital to recruit 500 additional people since, they said at that time, the facility would start operations with a greater capacity.
“It's going to be one of the largest, but also the most flexible, sustainable and productive group in the world, of the entire network of more than 30 production locations that we have around the world,” said Wehr, who also highlighted that there is room for the plant to grow its footprint in case it is required.
“The project is going very well, we went through it this week, we are 99% complete, all the machinery is installed and our first preproduction car has already been made. The project in general is going very well, in a timely manner,” he said.
