Ford Cuautitlan to cease Fiesta production in August; retooling for electric car comes next

In the second half of 2019, Ford Motor Co. will stop producing the Fiesta model at the Cuautitlan plant in the State of Mexico. This is in order to retool the facility to start the production of an electric vehicle in 2020, state-owned news outlet Notimex reported.
The president and CEO of the company in Mexico, Hector Perez, said it is expected that, in August 2019, the production of the Fiesta will stop to start the modification of tools and production line for the new electric unit, whose nameplate is still unknown.
The manager said that down times and payment terms have been agreed for workers who will remain inactive during the reconfiguration of the plant and will be reincorporated into the production of the electric vehicle in the first half of 2020.
āIn Cuautitlan, weāre preparing to produce an electric vehicle that is going to be exported to the whole world, and we are proud to say that it is going to be made in Mexico,ā Perez said in a meeting with representatives of the national press.
