Executives from KIA Motors Mexico informed that the decision to stop producing the hatchback version of the KIA Forte in Nuevo Leon will not affect the factory's workforce, since the capacity destined to that model will be used to build a greater volume of the Forte sedan.

The general director of Kia Motors Mexico, Horacio Chávez, told Notimex that the decision to stop producing the hatchback version was due to low sales, since deliveries in Mexico and those countries where it is exported are minimal, so it was decided to supply those units from the Korean plant.

“The segment of hatchbacks in Mexico and the United States is very small, so it was decided that the complete production of this vehicle would go to Korea where they already produce it,” he said.

During 2018, the production of the plant located in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, was about 300,000 units of the KIA Rio, KIA Forte and the Hyundai Accent, all of them in both sedan and hatchback versions.
