Production of Chevy Cruze at Ramos Arizpe ended last month, GM confirms

General Motors (GM) public relations staff recently confirmed to local media in the state of Coahuila that production of the Chevrolet Cruze at the Ramos Arizpe plant ended in December.

The technical and human resources destined to the production of the Cruze are now focused in the new Chevrolet Blazer, hence no layoffs were made, the company announced.

Last November GM announced a restructuring plan that involves the end of production of several sedan models in North America, which would involve the closure of several plants.

Among the models to be discontinued is the Cruze, whose hatchback version was built in Ramos Arizpe. Still in December GM produced 1,536 units at Ramos Arizpe, of which 1,315 vehicles were exported to the United States and 256 to Canada, according to official figures.

In contrast, the production of the Chevy Blazer started in November with 608 units, while in December it was of 3,018 SUVs.

Meanwhile, the sedan version of Chevy Cruze will continue to be produced at the plant in Lordstown, Ohio until next March.
