Mexico will build 40 solar power plants and 25 wind power plants in a period of three years

According to energy secretary Pedro J. Coldwell, Mexico plans to increase renewable energy generation in the next three years with three completed electric auctions.

In the next three years, it will build 65 new plants, 40 solar plants and 25 wind farms, with an estimated investment of US$8.6 billion.

The prices obtained are among the lowest in the world, with offers that reached US$17.7 per megawatt and US$19.7 for photovoltaic solar.

In 2015 there were 37 wind farms in the country, while in 2017 it increased to 46. It is estimated that by 2021 there will be 66 wind farms.

In the case of solar energy, the average growth in installed capacity was 35%. Currently, Mexico is growing 110%.

It is important to point out that the photovoltaic and wind industry are showing a renewed dynamism, the world average in 2016-2017 growth of wind energy was 10%, while Mexico is growing at 25%.
