Secretaría de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural (Sader) and rice producers agreed to initiate a work plan which aims to recover and boost grain production as well as gradually reduce imports.

Among the first actions to follow is the development of meetings between Sader and the minister of Economy (SE) to review import quotas issues; this would mean an alliance between the government and the national production chain.

Another of the actions to be developed is to achieve greater linkage with researchers on genetic material and improved varieties, through Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias (INIFAP).

Agreements with Comisión Nacional del Agua (Conagua) will be developed too, and they will look for optimizing the use and exploitation of liquid in the expansion of cultivation areas. The head of Sader, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, said that the central objective of the federal government is to gradually strengthen inclusive agriculture, with emphasis on supporting production in the south-southeast of the country.
