Fibra Macquarie on Wednesday broke ground to build a new industrial site in Ciudad Juarez. The real estate developer is investing US$20.1 million at the premises that will host two facilities of 20,000 square meters each.

“This is first time Fibra Macquarie does a development from scratch in Ciudad Juarez, from buying the land up to building the facilities,” said CEO Juan Monroy. “We own several buildings in the city, but we bought them and this time we are developing the whole complex.”

Monroy said the southern part of Ciudad Juarez is growing and more companies are willing to locate their operations in this region and the new complex will increase the competitiveness of this area.

The JUA 043 industrial complex is located south of Ciudad Juarez and has access to major highways. This investment is going to create 600 direct jobs during develpment.

Monroy said the development consists in several phases and the first building is going to be ready mid-2019. The real estate company is now in negotiations to find the first tenant for this complex, but they have not closed a deal yet.

FIBRA Macquarie started operations in the State if Chihuahua in 2012. So far, the real estate developer has invested US$2.2 billion and owns 46 industrial facilities, mainly in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua City.
