Mexico’s economy registered its lowest growth in 5 years

Mexican economy grew 2% during 2018, which was its lowest advance since 2013, with an increase of 2.4% regarding primary activities, 0.2% in secondary activities and 2.8% in tertiary activities.

According to preliminary information published by Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), during the 4th quarter of 2018, Mexico’s economy registered a slowdown, with its gross domestic product (GDP) registering an increase of 1.8%, compared to the same period during 2017, less than the 2.5% annual increase of the previous quarter.

On the inside, GDP regarding secondary activities presented an annual fall of 0.7%, while the GDP regarding tertiary activities increased 2.9%, but this result was lower than the 3.2% registered during the third quarter; while primary activities GDP grew 2.8%.

From a quarterly perspective, during the 4th quarter of 2018 the GDP grew 0.3%, with respect to the previous quarter. By components, primary activities grew 1.9% and tertiary activities grew 0.8%, while secondary activities decreased 1.1% during the 4th quarter of last year compared to the previous quarter, informed INEGI.
