API Coatzacoalcos will invest US$23 million this year

COATZACOALCOS The general director of Administracion Portuaria Integral  (API) Coatzacoalcos, Luis Antonio Luna Rosales, recently presented the guidelines and new projects that the Federal Government has for the port of Veracruz, API reported.

As part of the federal strategy for the transformation of the ports of Mexico, the interoceanic corridor, he said, is a fundamental part for the development of the southeast of the country, in such a way that the ports of Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos will benefit from the construction and modernization of roads, railways, as well as the expansion of the necessary port infrastructure.

Luna Rosales emphasized that only this year, an investment of US$23 million will be made in order to continue with the development of the port of Coatzacoalcos.

In the case of the Pajaritos port area, 130 meters of the 1P will be expanded in order to have a 400 linear meters area and be able to have two berths; including the sheet piling and dredging, the construction of road and rail access are part of a first stage.

The federal official added that the construction of a fuel storage terminal equipped with four tanks, which would increase the installed capacity in the port, is contemplated in the port of Coatzacoalcos. He also reported that the port movement during the past year was 30 million tons of total cargo.

Regarding the issue of the management of hydrocarbons, strategy undertaken by the Government of Mexico, Luna Rosales said that it collaborated with Fiscalía General de la República providing the information required as part of the investigation into the management of fuel on the high seas on the coasts of Tabasco.
