Mexican creates the country’s first aerospace workshop

MEXICO — Maker Lab will be a space created for young people of different ages to find the tools and machinery necessary to develop projects concerning the aerospace field, projected as a technological place for learning, said Eduardo Guizar Sainz, creator and project manager.

The industrial engineer plans to open this laboratory for all audiences, which will be located in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa, and it is estimated that it will be inaugurated at the end of March of this year.

Other activities planned for Maker Lab include work with several multiropter drones, fixed-wing drone and hybrid of both, as well as the launch of space exploration probes and training workshops for training drones and industrials with artificial intelligence.

Guizar Sainz indicated that he will work with multiple institutions, including Agencia Espacial Mexicana (AEM), which collaborates closely with his project, and likewise will join efforts with Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC) and the Aerospace Cluster of the same state, headed by Tomás Sibaja, who has supported the work.

He also explained that he is currently coordinating activities with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the California State University (Cal State) to collaborate in this project, where astronaut José Hernández will be present in some of the the presentations.

In this initiative, the governments of Sonora and Baja California have also committed themselves, to the degree of thinking about the implementation of a second Maker Lab located in the second mentioned state, linking works in a triple helix scheme (academia-industry-government), the engineer explained.
